Philadelphia's 100+ year old tradition - the Mummers Parade -
is at risk of being eliminated completely!
The current economic crisis has caused the City of Philadelphia
to withdraw budget support for the Parade, including all prize money.
Additionally, the City now requires payment from the Mummers for things like police and sanitation employees.
At a minimum, this results in the Mummers being in the hole
annually for $400,000. This money is used for those City services referenced
above. To put this into perspective, it also costs the Mummers an
additional $1,000,000 to $2,000,000 for the costumes and props used in their
New Year's Day productions.
To Save the Mummers Parade in 2010 and future years, and
to keep the oldest folk parade tradition alive, we need your financial
